# Can customers make payments in their preferred currency?

Customers can pay in their local currency if you have **Shopify Payments** set up with **local currency ** enabled for your markets. However, Shopify’s policies prevent modifications to the checkout page, so the local currency will only be displayed if Shopify Markets is activated on your store.
